I have some unfortunate news to share. As you all know I've been working hard to train for my November 13th marathon in Richmond, VA. I've been doing so well and averaging a 7:54 pace during my long runs, a time that would re-qualify me for the Boston Marathon.
Recently however, I tripped while running and rolled my ankle pretty badly and now my hip flexor is KILLING me.
It's been about a week now and it's still too painful to run. I didn't mention anything earlier because I hoped it would magically heal itself, but sadly it doesn't look that's happening. So for right now, the marathon is up in the air and I guess I'll see how I feel within the next two weeks, but it's not looking good :(
So in the meantime I'll be saying bye-bye to my favorite running routes:
And trying to stay in marathon shape by other workouts that don't hurt my hip such as:
BodyPump
Spinning classes
Solo Spinning classes (via podcast):
Yoga:
And some other DVD favorites:

Any advice on how to quickly heal a hurt hip flexor?
What are your favorite cardio workouts that don't involve running?

Oh I am so sorry to hear about your injury!! Maybe try some hip specific stretches/yoga moves?
ReplyDeleteBy the way, where do you get the spinning podcasts from?
@The Hot and Fit Thanks for the advice :) I download them from iamplify.com
ReplyDeleteSwimming!!
ReplyDeleteOh no! I hope everything works out for you!! Stay positive! Which it already sounds like you're doing! :)
ReplyDeleteAww Lauren-I'm so sorry to hear that. I know how hard it is..trust me! And yes, everyone recommends swimming. I hope it feels better soon.
ReplyDeleteAww I'm sorry to hear about this Lauren. Luckily I have never suffered from a serious injury (knock on wood) but I know that rest is a very good healer. Just listen to your body, and focus on other goals in the meantime. You can do it! :)
ReplyDeleteSO sorry Lauren!! Praying for you! Keep your head up!
ReplyDeleteIm SO so to hear this! I feel for you girl! Just take it easy and it should feel better in time. I think stretching it out daily would really help too.
ReplyDeleteThat really sucks. Hope you feel better soon.
ReplyDeleteI love the elliptical. It's very low impact.

ReplyDeleteI have absolutely no idea how to help you :/
ReplyDeleteI am sorry, just keep resting. Maybe ice and stretching? Go to the dr too maybe!
Get better soon!
Oh NO! I'm sorry to hear about your hip! I would go see a very qualified trainer or a doctor!
ReplyDeleteSeems like your hip flexor but maybe try a physio or chiro and get your pelvis checked... might be out of alignment after your tripped and that could account for the new pain? just a thought.
ReplyDeletebest of luck with the recovery!
girl i am soo sorry! oh my goodness gracious!! you are so positive tho.. spinning ROCKS!
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry to hear that. Stay strong girlie...you will bounce back in no time. Just remember everything happens for a reason. xoxo

ReplyDeleteOh no, I'm so sorry to hear that :( You should definitely go to a doctor and get it checked out though- it might be easier to remedy than you think, and then you can still run your mary!! Get well soon love!!
ReplyDeleteYou poor thing :( Have you been foam rolling? I agree with Gabriela - if it hurts more than week you should probably get it checked out.
ReplyDeleteI will keep my fingers crossed for you for a speedy recovery!
Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear about the injury. The best thing to do for recovery is really take it easy. Better to go easy now than hurt for longer. I hope you feel better soon!
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry to hear about this! I know how hard you were working! An injury sucks, but it always is best to let it heal sooner rather than later; you don't want to be able to never run again! I have a mild issue in the back of my hip right now. I think it has to do with my sciati nerve, my piri formis muscle, and my sacrum. Yeah, it's complicated.
ReplyDeleteWith hip flexors, I think one of the best things is just stretching it out a lot, if that doesn't hurt.
Good luck! I'm wishing you well. :)
Yikes! I hope you feel better! I know how frustrating that must be, but I think everything happens for a reason - I guess we'll just have to wait and see!
ReplyDeleteoh, no! stay positive! you'll heal quickly. :)
ReplyDeleteGirl, you KNOW I can relate to the not running thing. My advice is do NOT do anything that causes pain. The more you rest, the faster you will heal and be back to doing what you love!!! Sending you positive healing vibes love :)
ReplyDeleteAw I'm so sorry to hear about your injury :( I hope you heal up fast - I'm praying for you! My favorite cardio workout aside from running is definitely the elliptical!
ReplyDeleteOMG IM SO SORRY!!!! honestly, im really sorry to hear this :( take care ok <3 <3 HUGS
