How was your day?? Why does this week feel so freakin' long??? Bleh!
I decided after the weekends' bday celebrations (aka lots-o-margaritas, champagne, Mexican, etc. my bod needed a little detox. Nothing drastic, just a good sweat sesh and looooots of H20 and veggies. And alas, I feel like ma-self again :)
I went for a goooorgeous 7-mile run around the District. It was peerdy but a little tooo hot to run, imo. I'm a huge baby when it comes to running in the heat. I'm a nighttime runna <3
Pics from the morning's run:
^Start of the route. Still a few Cherry Blossoms left.
Aaaand some eats:
^Monstah salad (romaine, kale, tofu, tomato, cucumber, laughing cow cheese, cranberries, sunflower seeds, balsamic vinegar, Goddess Dressing.
^Diced tomato, sea salt, pepper, Goddess Dressing
^Sweet potato fries (EVOO spray, sea salt, pepper, organic ketchup)
^Apple w/ cinnamon, mesquite, and cinnamon raisin swirl PB
To top of the Monday-ish, I did 234098324024 lbs. of laundry. Exhilarating, I know.
And to get through it all...
^Iced Coffee + soy. Mmmm luuurve iced coffee season.
So my question for youuz all is--have you ever participated in a workout challenge??? I'd love to do a 30-day Bikram Yoga challenge someday but those classes take up so much darn time! Guess that's part of the 'challenge', ha. I'm also trying to incorporate more strength training/core workouts into my daily wkout routine. Problem is, I haaaaate lifting! I'd so much rather run :-) So I'm embarking on Jillian Michaels 30 day Shred. I'm aiming to do it 4X week (either L2 or 3) and/or taking a strength training/BodyPump class at my gym.
How many days do you strength train?? And do you do cardio on these days too??
Aiiight peeps, sorry it's a short one. It's back to Experimentland for this one.
xx,
Lauren
PS...Snapped this pic at CVS today. Seriously trash mags? C'mon...you can do better.

Thanks for the taco salad dressing recipe, sounds good!! I'll have to try that! I wish I would've seen that before I ate lunch today haha
ReplyDeleteMondays are no fun :( But yours doesn't sound too bad! Sweet potato fries and Starbuck's iced coffees make ALL things better!!!
I've been seeing Mesquite all around the blogging world, what is it? I know it's supposed to be super good for you but I don't know anything else about it.
I did the 30 Day Shred challenge and it worked!!!! That workout is INTENSE!!
Have a great rest of the week!
Love you!
I think you should lift no more than 4x/week. And definitely no more than 3 if your workouts are full body workouts. Otherwise you risk overtraining. And it's okay to do both cardio and weights on the same day. I do. But I always listen to my body and rest on one if I need to. And I always try to keep my total workout time at a reasonable amount.
ReplyDeleteToo funny on the People magazine. Although that would be cool with me. I like Jen much better than Angelina. LOL
You always seem to run on the most gorgeous days...seriously, I wish my routes were as scenic as yours! Especially with those cherry blossoms!!
ReplyDeleteI've never done a workout challenge, but I'm toying with the idea of doing Insanity/P90X when I'm home for the summer, just to have something fun to keep me occupied!! I try to strength train 2-3x a week, on my light cardio days. I should do more, but I really prefer getting my move on!
Hope you're having a great week girl!!
I committed to 30 days of yoga and it was great. I have been doing p90x, but more like 4 days a week since I'm doing marathon training... for me committing to a challenge is a fun way to stick with it!
ReplyDeleteI prefer to run or do cardio over strength training, but since I injured my hip I have realized the importance of doing strength, even if it is for muscles that don't make you look better in clothes. I aim for at least two sessions of 20 min of strength a week. It's a good, doable goal. If I tell myself to do more and I don't then I get discouraged.
ReplyDeleteoh ps - I call it my "insurance plan for the bones when I am an old lady" so I will have strong hips and bones
ReplyDeleteIt looks like we have similar tastes in dressing, Lauren - I am OBSESSED with Goddess dressing. I put it on just about everything, and I have the monster-sized bottle in my fridge ;)
ReplyDeleteI've never participated in a workout challenge (too little time!), but I do cardio 5-6 days a week and strength training once a week, although I'm trying to get it up to three days a week. Eventually :)
I have never done a workout challenge, although the hubby and I are thinking about doing P90x/Insanity this summer once it gets too hot to breathe down here (and it does).I need to strength train more!
ReplyDeletedoes training count as a workout challenge? I usually strength train 3 times a week (circuit- much like JIllian's 30 Day Shred) along with incline sprints and a spin class. T, and Th I usually do my plyometric training workout and possibly play vb, then Sat its my yoga and spin class day with a little sand vb if the weather allows :-)
ReplyDelete@Tina Yeah, I agree! More than 4X would be wayyy too much! Aaaand I'm not nearly that motivated ;-)
ReplyDelete@Gabriela ME TOO! I'd choose running over lifting anyday!!
ReplyDelete@Amanda - RunToTheFinish Awesome! What kind of yoga did you do??
ReplyDelete@Jessie Ummmm, where did you find a MASSIVE bottle of Goddess??? :) :)
ReplyDelete@myhealthiestlifestyle Heck yeah it does ;-) Sounds like you have an AWESOME wkout routine!!
ReplyDeletehahaha every title of those magts is something about jen and brad and angelina, seriousyl enough...I just read one that said jen was DEF pregnant. I only trust news when I hear it from People mag!
ReplyDeleteLove your pics!! that monstahhh salad YUMMMERS!
I am starting to strength train a bit and aiming to do 1x upper, 1x lower, 1x abs per week...its tough though! Love your salad - looks majorly delish!
ReplyDeleteThose running paths look gorg! I'm jealous. I have been loving goddess dressing lately!
ReplyDeleteI try to life twice a week and do thirty minutes of cardio those days, usually HIIT. It's actually kind of fun to life, it makes me feel strong!
Wow 7 miles!!! That's so awesome! Lovely photos! You're an excellent photographer :) And YAY for iced coffees! My fave! I always get a Venti hehe
ReplyDeleteGood luck on the 30 day shred!! Let me know how it goes! I'd love to do a 30 day challenge of some sort too. Gotta look good in that bikini! Haha
Have a fabulous day girl, hope it gets less manic! xo
@Mariah @ HealthyGLAM Thank you! I actually take them with my Crackberry! haha
ReplyDelete@runwritetherapylife I need some HIIT in my life. I should aim for 1X per week since I don't do much (except sprints when spinning, does that count?? haha)
ReplyDeletehmm I am on an 8 week half-marathon training plan...does that count?? There's only 1 day with strength training and 4 days of running. Not bad at all huh? I do wish I were not so clueless when it comes to weights though...i think it would do me really good if I knew how to utilize them better. :)
ReplyDeleteP.s. Your shoes in that last post were hott!!! Where can I get me some? :P
gotta love those trashy mags!!! lol!!
ReplyDeleteI love the beautiful pics you take on your runs!!!
We do need to get together soon for lunch or something!!!
Have a great day girl!!!
