Dates, long run, and gym dudes

Hey y'allll,

How was your weekend??? Mine was great, and I even managed to check off several items off my ta-dooo list. Didn't get evvvvvverything accomplished, but can't complain :-)

Friday after lab, I hit the gym for a 60 min spinning class and some abs/arms. The class was great but I couldn't help staring at this gym dude flexing has abs and checking them out after each set. Do you have these guys at your gym???? They're pretty much the DC version of Jersey Shore. In college my friends and I would call them "Ya Dudes" because that's how they talk, "Yaaaaaaa dudeeee (or bro), check out my [insert favorite muscle]. They annoy me as well as entertain at the same time (if that's possible) haha

After the gym I made a BOMB dinner I had been creating in my head all day:

^Spiralized zucchini, steamed veggies, tofu, peanuts, and Trader Joe's Spicy Peanut Vinaigrette. Sooooo good. Must make again ASAP.

And what Friday night wouldn't be complete with some frozen strawberry margaritas (au natural)????

^Check back this week for a post decided solely to making the perfect skinny margarita

And delivery dessert:

^Cookies and cream and brownie bites.

^Close up on the brownie bites because it was clearly necessary.

Ahhhh, a perfect stay-at-home Friday night (imo) :-)

Saturday Seth accompanied me to the best place to spend on a Saturday:

^ha, not exactly. BUT I did set up a *very* exciting experiment. Fingers crossed!

After lab, we had a little date night because the roomies were away. Such a fun time ;-)

I planned to go out with some friends, but was soooo unbelievably exhausted from lab that the couch + movies + Seth + good food was all I needed.

Some eats from the night worth posting:

^ Diced veggies and Trader Joe's Roasted Red pepper hummus

^ Sweet potato fries (EVOO spray, sea salt, pepper) and organic ketchup

^Honeycrisp apple, cinnamon, mesquite, and Better N' Peanut Butter

Sunday was a perrrrrfect day. I planned to run 12-miles but ended up doing 14!!! And today I'm feeling great. No sore muscles/joints at all! (Thank you again, Bikram for healing my running injuries!)

I ran an average pace of 8:08 and still managed to take some pics along the way.

Potomac river:

White House:

Key bridge view looking at Watergate (L) and Kennedy center (R):

Washington Monument:

Jefferson Memorial:

National Mall:

Capitol:

Ahhh, I looooooove running in DC! The scenery never gets old! After a great run, Ally came over for dinner. We had magic soup w/ whole grain bread but I failed to take any pics.

Anywhoooo, I'm gonna set up another experiment. Have a great night!!

QUESTION: Do you have "Ya Dudes" at your gym? And when was the last time (if ever) you visited Washington, DC???

xx

Lauren

  1. That veggie tofu dinner looks AMMMAAAZING! Question for you: what kind of spiralizer do you have? I have a food processor that can *shred* zucchini, but it's just not the same. ::sigggh::

I'm sure there are a handful of "ya dudes" at my gym, but none that I chose to socialize with ;) haha there is a whole 'nother category of "ARRRGH Dudes" and those would be the ones who always act like they are SOO pumped up on testosterone that they're going to burst. They rank highest on my amusement list.

  2. There are def tons of jacked up meatheads at my gym. They amuse me with their swagga like their arms are soooo huge, they must walk like the hulk? Know what I mean? It gets annoying when there are yellers and screamers.. ugh okay, we get it already! No need for screams.

  3. I workout really really early in the morning, so the "Ya dudes" haven't woken up yet. But I remember seeing them back in college all the time-cracked me up!

I went to DC in 8th grade for a field trip. Clearly it was a long time ago, so I don't remember much but your run pictures look lovely!

  4. Yeah cell culture!! Haha =) I'm a former science nerd- left a Ph.D. program in Molecular Biochemistry with a M.S. when I decided I just didn't have the thick skin it requires. Anywho...I'm a newish reader to your blog and just wanted to say "hey". I love how you manage to balance everything, I completely understand that you HAVE to do that to stay sane in that type of program. Hope your experiment turns out well!

  6. Looks like a relaxing AND productive weekend! So nice of the manfriend to join you at the lab:)

How do you carry your camera on your runs? I'm a minimalist runner usually carrying nothing except my keys. But I know I should bring water on long runs and it would be great to snap some pics too!

  9. I would run more if I had stuff to look at like you do ;) I have a 3500 house subdivision :(! The guys at my gym aren't that bad. I get a kick out of hearing about other bloggers stories about all of the flexing and stuff going on at theirs! LMAO! I think I would just stand and stare, if it were happening :)

  11. @Lauren

Haha, I'm actually back in grad school in an accelerated program to get my R.N. and N.P.(although this time, no stipend- boohoo!). I did my research on breast cancer, so right now I'm hoping to become an oncology specialist, but we will see. Mice with cancer and people with cancer are different...

  14. The first and only time I've been to DC was the summer before 8th grade. Me and the fam had a great time!

I don't really have any Jersey Shore-esque males at my gym. Thank goodness!
