I've noticed lately that I have great mornings (full of energy, brain is actually working, etc.) when I eat a 'power breakfast'. I know this isn't a shocker but I usually hit the snooze 589340854239843 times so a good breakfast is hard to come by sometimes. For me this means covering every food group, getting enough calories, and some vitamins in there. Today I made a GREEN smoothie. It looks quite disgusting and you might guess that it tastes like the spinach and algae that give it it's lovely hunter green color. But in fact it was AWESOME!!!

Image from http://gotgreensrevolution.com...but I swear mine looked identical ;-)
In my fancy-schmancy magic bullet (new blender is in the snail mail) I combined:
1 scoop vanilla protein powder (I use Designer Whey brand)
1/4 cup frozen blueberries
1/8 cup frozen raspberries
1 banana
1 cup raw organic spinach (I used fresh over frozen to avoid the funk frozen taste)
1 tsp spirulina (an algae that's apparently pretty good for ya)
~3/4 cup unsweetened almond milk (any milk will do)
Seriously...Not joking, it was fan-freanin-tastic!
I agree with you! I made the Fat Loss smoothie from Oxy mag...Green doesnt bother as much as the idea of putting veggies in w/fruit. But I tried it..YUM! It's a task tho to get hubby to try it...the green color puts him off. LOL
ReplyDeleteI make a very similar green smoothie that I absolutely love. I am trying to get my young daughter to enjoy it as well but getting an eighteen month old to like anything consistently is like trying to pull teeth.
